Perched on one of Altadena's most challenging hillside sites, this like-for-like fire rebuild reimagines what the original home could have been while remaining within the parameters of the rebuilding process. The previous residence was a conventional stucco home with a simple gabled roof that made little use of its extraordinary setting. Rather than simply recreating the former layout, we completely redesigned the floor plan to celebrate the property's greatest asset—a sweeping 180-degree panorama stretching toward the Pacific Ocean. Curved living spaces, expansive glazing, and carefully positioned rooms ensure that nearly every primary space is connected to the views while preserving privacy and creating a seamless relationship with the landscape.

The project's complexity extended well beyond the architecture. The steep hillside required thoughtful integration of structural, geotechnical, and grading solutions, making the entitlement process particularly demanding. Working closely with consultants and local agencies, the project underwent nearly a year of review before receiving approval. Inside, the design embraces warm natural materials, custom millwork, and carefully curated finishes that reinforce the home's organic geometry. The result is a residence that transforms a difficult site into its defining strength—a modern hillside home that feels calm, timeless, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
