LOMA ALTA DR - ALTADENA FIRE REBUILD
ALTADENA, CALIFORNIA
Eaton Fire Rebuild, Single Family Residence with attached 3-car Garage.
Under construction, estimated completion 2026
This Altadena rebuild represents a thoughtful evolution of a cherished family home, balancing the opportunity for increased living space with the desire to preserve the defining qualities of the original residence. The owners elected to pursue the non-like-for-like rebuild option, allowing for a larger floor area while intentionally retaining the architectural elements that had become synonymous with the property. Chief among these was the iconic three-car garage, which remained a central organizing feature of the design and continues to establish a strong presence from the street. Inspired by timeless European farmhouse architecture, the new residence combines natural stone, smooth stucco, standing-seam metal roofing, and clean gabled forms to create a home that feels both enduring and contemporary while remaining respectful of its history.
The site’s significant topography played a fundamental role in shaping the architecture. The original residence was a split-level, single-story home that stepped naturally with the hillside, and the new design expands upon that concept by creating three distinct living levels that follow the terrain rather than competing with it. Although the home is organized across three floor elevations, the massing is carefully composed so that no portion exceeds two stories when viewed from any one location, minimizing its visual impact while taking full advantage of the site’s grade changes. The primary suite occupies the highest level and is strategically angled to capture sweeping views toward the Pacific Ocean and the Los Angeles skyline, transforming the natural orientation of the site into one of the home’s defining experiences. This layered approach to planning creates a residence that feels expansive and connected to the landscape while preserving the familiar character and memorable features that made the original home so significant to the family.
