The Panamint Drive project reimagines what an accessory dwelling unit can be by transforming the constraints of a steep hillside into the project's defining opportunity. Rather than placing a detached structure within the limited outdoor space, the new 800-square-foot ADU is carefully embedded into the hillside, preserving the openness of the property while creating a private, light-filled living environment.

The design is centered around an innovative integration of architecture, landscape, and structure. A new swimming pool is positioned directly above the ADU, with the roof of the residence serving as the structural foundation for the pool itself. By seamlessly combining these elements, the project maximizes the functionality of the site without compromising usable outdoor space or the surrounding views. The result is a highly technical yet understated design that conceals much of the new construction within the natural topography, allowing the landscape—not the architecture—to remain the defining feature of the property.
