SAINT JAMES PLACE - ALTADENA FIRE REBUILD

ALTADENA, CALIFORNIA
Eaton Fire rebuild, Single Family Residence with a detached garage.
Under Construction, estimated completion 2027

This Altadena rebuild project was guided by a deep commitment to preserving the legacy of a family home that had been passed down through generations. Rather than reimagining the residence with a completely contemporary layout, the design intentionally honors the character and spatial rhythm of the original house. The architecture draws inspiration from its traditional Spanish Colonial roots through the use of simple white stucco walls, a clay tile roof, arched openings, and a welcoming front porch, creating a home that feels familiar while standing ready for future generations. The result is a residence that respects the emotional significance of the original home while thoughtfully adapting it to today’s building standards and lifestyle expectations.

Inside, the floor plan was carefully reconfigured to improve functionality while maintaining the compartmentalized organization that defined the original residence. Rather than adopting a fully open-concept layout, individual living spaces were preserved to reflect the home’s historic character, with modern connections introduced where they enhance daily living. The kitchen was repositioned as the functional heart of the home, serving as a natural gathering space while maintaining visual separation between the living, dining, and family rooms. Private bedroom wings, updated bathrooms, and expanded storage provide the conveniences expected of a modern family without sacrificing the sense of intimacy and defined spaces that made the original home so meaningful. The design balances preservation and progress, ensuring the rebuilt home carries forward both the architectural identity and the family history embedded within the property.
