Completed 2020

Designed before California law permitted multiple detached ADUs on a single lot, this project anticipated future zoning changes through a flexible, mirrored floor plan. The layout was intentionally organized so the structure could be easily be divided into two independent residences with minimal modifications if regulations evolved. Shortly after completion, changes in state legislation through SB 9 made that vision a reality, allowing the owners to convert the building into two separate units with little retrofit. The project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and adaptable design can extend the long-term value and functionality of a home. The innovative approach was later recognized with publication in the Los Angeles Times.
